Organic spelt contains more protein, fats and crude fiber than wheat. Once cooked, it can be substituted in place of a rice pasta, or put on top of salads for healthy texture.
One of the treasured ancient grains that originated in the Near East over 8,000 years ago. Spelt has never been hybridized, so it has retained many of its original nutritional characteristics from antiquity.
While not gluten free, spelt grain is more easily digested than other forms of wheat due to its high water solubility. Flour milled from spelt makes excellent pasta and baked goods due to its gluten content.
Has a chewy texture and sweet nutlike flavor. Spelt grains are delicious as a hot cereal or in pilafs, bread, soups or cold salads.
